Removing Paint from Clothing
Discussion
An unfortunate combination of having to wear a smart jacket to London on Monday, a rude barging woman, a narrow pavement, and a freshly-painted bollard now means I have a smear of white gloss paint on my lovely new wool and cashmere jacket
Lunchtime googling has suggested scrubbing it with either alcohol-based hand rub or hairspray - which I'm prepared to have a go at, unless anyone else has any better ideas? The drycleaners didn't want to know, as they reckoned the jacket was too valuable - probably afraid I'd try suing them if it all went Pete Tong.

Always test first on out of sight area on jacket.
Is this really necessary if his jacket already has a big smear of paint on it?
Reminds me of a time. I had newly varnished some wood in the garage.
I then went in to shower and change as I was off out for a night out.
Thought on my way out, I would check on the drying process of the wood.
Tripped over and managed to cover my new light grey trousers in varnish.
Never did get it out!

You can easily conceal the damage by painting the whole jacket gloss white. The mark will then be indistinguishable.
Won't he look mega-trendy with a gloss white jacket?
However, sadly I must inform you that it's not to be. I got home tonight and set to with fingernail and Scothbrite pad, and found that it was quite possible to scratch off the paint. There's a very slight area where it's lighter than the rest of the jacket, but it's invisible from more than a couple of feet, so I've decided to declare success and leave it at that.
Ah well if you've got the main stain out but are left with a small area a tad lighter than the rest, then a gentle application of shoe polish should suitably feck the whole thing up completely for you.
No, no, don't thank me you'll look a proper pillock leaving shoe polish stains everywhere.

What a cracking idea, I'll break out the Cherry Blossom immediately! The Jacket is blue, and I've only got black or brown. Do you think it will matter, or should I mix in a bit of blue food colouring ?No, no, don't thank me you'll look a proper pillock leaving shoe polish stains everywhere.

Might one do better to call The Chap magazine and ask for sartorial advice?

Sadly, any such advice would be completely wasted on me. I seem to be an irretrievably scruffy sod. You could take me down to Savile Row, spend thousands on the finest suitings made to especially for me, and 10 minutes later I'd be looking like a bum.
