Tarmac section
Discussion
Had a patch filled in with Tarmac, quite a decent size ..the Tarmac etc has been placed andpressed however where the old Tarmac meets thea new Tarmac there has been nothing placed.
Whenever I saw the council filling in potholes they put this black sealant around tahe new Tarmac where it met the old Tarmac.
Shouldn't there be something placed like a sealer or something ?
Am I going to have to call the guy back ?

No. Will be fine if work was carried out properly. Whenever I saw the council filling in potholes they put this black sealant around tahe new Tarmac where it met the old Tarmac.

I asked a contractor on a site I was working about this, apparently there is a method known as side sealing which can be employed in certain conditions, where rather than a line of bitumen on the top there is something used on the joining faces where the two sections meet.
Could it be its been used in this case too?

Sounds a bit like they hoyed a bit of del set into the hole tamped it in and ran but I haven't seen it.
The overbanding with hot poured bitumen you talk about on "proper roads" is no longer considered best practice, as it can be a cause of skidding when wet, mainly motorbikes. The preferred method now is to only coat the cut vertical face.
