Land ownership query.
Discussion
Hello,
there is a piece of land I'd like to find the owner for the approach them about the possibility of buying. First problem is the land appears to be 'abandoned' with fences collapsed, lots of flytips, burnt out vehicles and so on. Absolutely no sign of life on the maybe 10 occasions I've been there. The site was used temporarily by, AHEM, members of the travelling community. Second problem is I've gone through land registry and its registered to a limited company. The limited company went insolvent over 3 years ago. Google offers no information about this company or its owners and seemed to be just a holding company of sorts. Third problem is that the local authority advised that they had had some run ins with the owner about 5 years ago with non-permitted works and breaches of covenant and that through their inquiries they had traced the business back to a mailbox within an accountants. The accountants claimed to know nothing of the owners whereabouts.
If the business registered as the sole owner has become insolvent then surely ownership has to move elsewhere (repossessed to mortgage company, new owner, etc). Could this happen without land registry being told?
Obviously sounds like a complicated situation and from reading the covenants (supplied by my registry search) the use of the land is very restrictive (but ideal for what I'm looking for).
Any thoughts?

If the company which owns it hasn't just become insolvent but has actually been wound up (will be apparent from a Companies House Webcheck search, stated as dissolved) then the land will pass to the crown (depending on location, this may be the Duchy of Cornwall or Duchy of Lancaster, but otherwise it'll vest in the Treasury Solicitor as agent for the crown). There's even a website for it now! http://www.bonavacantia.gov.uk/
It is possible that they are not aware of the land yet, and it is also possible for the company to be reinstated to the register (if it has been dissolved) solely for the purpose of transferring the land, so there may be two potential routes open to you for acquiring it.
