hi there i have an electrician coming next week to remove some of the sockets in the room that we are turning into a dinning room, once hes finished some windows are going in hen i need some plastering down. the room was a kitchen so when i took the tiles of the dot and dab plasterboard i couldn't get them off cleanly. ive got a skip coming next week so if i take off i can bung it in the skip, will a plasterer be able to do anything with whats left, ie just cut plasterboard to fit or will it all have to come off and be re plasterboarded. Or should i square the holes off so it makes it easier to cut a new bit of plasterboard in it if that makes sense.

The plasterer will be able to trim up the holes and dot and dab some fresh plaserboard in there and then skim the walls after. Stripping the lot will just entail more work and more cost.

Check with your skip company about plasterboard!

most wont let you mix plasterboard in a skip now due to recycling regulations for gypsum products smile

^^^^^^^ True enough. Good news though is that your local council dump will have a skip for plaster/plasterboard. Just bag it up in builders bags (heavy duty plastic) to transport it in the boot. Empty into skip and use the bags again.
I must admit that having just done a hallway I think it would be better to put up fresh boards, rather than try to blend in. Once the old stuff is off the wall the new boards will go up quickly. It's not that expensive to buy and the end result will be worth it.

I have just been throught the same thing, I was advised to rip off all the plasterboard & replace it. Plasterer then just skimmed over the whole wall.
The skip comments are true, I had to pay £50 extra for a 'jumbo bag' to go inside my skip for the plasterboard. Had to bury some too under other rubble in the skip + some trips to the local dump!

Ask the plasterer what they want you to do when they come round to quote? Personally I'd be tempted to float out the holes with browning or hardwall back to the level of the boards then let them skim over the top.

will have to get a couple of plasterers round while i still have the skip then. knowning my luck i'll get a skip and cant get a plasterer round to let me know. the downstairs bathroom is tiled all the way around about half way up the wall so that might well be better just replastering although we are going to tile the whole room so wont need that plastering, cna jsut tile straight onto plasterboard cant i?

This may work out cheaper than a skip and easier than trying to get it all to the tip http://www.hippobagonline.co.uk/

^^^ This. Just get the spread to bond out the holes as they are. Tape the joints and skim.

I'have thought the plasterer would want to dot and dab some board in the holes, then skim the lot. I had a guy based in Islington come and do mine for £180 a day plus materials. He seems to have done a pretty good job.

I've got a couple of 25kg bags of Wickes plasterboard adhesive in Clapham, which I was going to take back to Wickes. Yours for a bottle of wine.

I've also got a couple of rolls of insulation, they can go for a bottle of wine each.

Buyer collects. wink
