Not a happy bunny tonight. An elderly neighbour decided she needed a new back door and bedroom window. Door approx 6'6"x 2'6" and window 4'x 3', so not massive items, nothing special in design.
So she got in touch with a very well known national double glazing company for a price and they visited her today.

"Well Mrs B", says salesman(I use that term loosely) "the window is £2241 and the door is £3361 coming to £5602 for the pair. But a special offer to you today it is £3025"

"oh great" says Mrs B "saving so much money, thank you kind sir. Where do I sign"

"sign here and pay £702 deposit now and its yours" says the mountainess salesman (read toad)

No, this isn't a pantomime, or a comedy. This is true, I have the contract in front of me

Needless to say, she has now taken the 7 day cancellation clause. What a pack of devious, sneaky, robbin barstewards. Really, words almost fail me

I'm suprised he didn't make a call to his "sales manager" so he could not get the price right down.......to £2999.99

It's not good that those allowed into the home's of people should be able to sign them up to agreements for that amount of money there and then - I think there should be something like a 48 hour 'thinking window' for any item/service over £250. No chance of that ever happening though!

To be fair, that doesn't sound altogether over the top for the company (I think) you're talking about. I had double glazing recently (1 front door and 5 relatively small windows), average price was about £2k but the company founded by Sir Edmund Hillary (?!!!) was close to 4 times that and every other 'salesman' that visited said that they were worth the extra they charge due to the quality of what they do.

She's happy - what's the problem?

Most old people have got so much money they couldn't possibly spend it.

Sounds about double the price it should be. Is there a body to report this to?.

I would have thought it is almost triple what it should cost. I have been out of the trade for a few years now, but didn't think I was that far out.
Email to the company for cancellation was nowhere near as strongly worded as I wanted to, she Didn't want to sound impolite.

Planning on inviting salesman round to a different house and having a 'meeting' with him rantingpunch

Think there should have been some smileys in your post to show that you were joking, otherwise some people might be led to the conclusion that your a cock.

Just though I'd point that one out for you.

Why would you think I care what other people think?

Mt wife and I are looking after three old people at the moment and they all have stupid amounts of cash. The most recent discovery was that my mother has a 6 figure sum in her current account. It's bonkers really. They should never have accumulated it in the first place and it's only going to get taken off them if they need looking after or they go into a care home.

The way I look at these things is that I'm glad if some people pay top price for stuff as that means the firm can afford to discount the item or service when I want to buy it.
