I live in a semi-detached house but my front room is situated on the adjoining wall to next-door.

Now I am a considerate neighbour so since they mentioned they can hear my sub even a moderate levels I've refrained from using the surround sound but I'm planning to do some redecorating and wondered if there were any key things I can incorporate in my new layout to allow me to enjoy the full-sensory experience without upsetting them (I've switched to headphones for solo XBox but obviously that's not ideal for more than one person when watching a film).

My limited knowledge suggests that my main problem is the concrete floor on which we have tiles rather than carpet so I guess that's a bad starting point but I was thinking that perhaps when I redecorate I could do something with the adjoining wall- perhaps an extra layer of drywall with Greenglue or a slight gap between the old wall and the new with some kind of insulation?

I suppose the issue is the sub-firing into the floor but is there a different type of sub that would be more suitable for this kind of application or would putting the sub on an isolation platform (or even a granite chopping block / piece of carpet or anything else you can to suggest) help things?

We don't seem to have any problems with sound travelling other than bass frequencies so I presume the house is reasonably well-constructed and the walls are fairly substantial.

The final alternative would be to move the AV equipment into the spare room and have a neat little set-up in there on the opposite side of the house but that's not ideal if we have more than a few people over to enjoy a movie.

So any experience of what worked for any of you guys?

We bought a detached. Just couldn't keep the noise down in a semi (and nor could the neighbours!).

Try standing the sub on a block of foam (like the inside of a sofa seat cushion).

Considering the way LFE works it does not matter which way your sub points, may even be worse if opposite to a party wall.

I'm guessing you have a sub/sat system so can't loose the sub without a change of speakers?
