I'm interested in a property that hasn't been sold in the last 15-20 years but I know that it's been on the market a few times during this period. Is there any way I can find out how much the property was marketed at? I've Googled it, but without any success.

Reason for asking is that I may approach the owner but want to at least have an idea of what he'd be looking for. I could do this by applying some index measure to the price that he was asking some time ago (obviously with the caveat that the house didn't actually sell, so it's just an estate agent's guess more than anything else).

Any help much appreciated.

You could have a check to see how much similar houses nearby are on the market for.

If you know the postcode of the property and how many beds then I can look it up on Rightmoveplus. Data goes back quite a few years on there but you can only access it if you are an agent. PM me and I'll see if I can find it.

zoopla have started listing historic adverts on the more recent house sales (with the asking price stated)once house sales have been realised from land reg.

Thanks for all the replies. The problem is that this house hasn't actually sold in the last 15-20 years. So it won't appear on sites like Propertysnake, and Zoopla. It's quite different from similar houses on the street, so that's not going to work either.

londonagent - would this mean it wouldn't appear on rightmoreplus either? Or does that site capture advertised prices?

I don't think rightmove (and thus rightmove +) were around 15-20 years ago?

But a user might be able to track back a property's history 10 years or so on rightmove plus. Still useful mind.

You just need to find a friendly estate agent to access it.

If you have an idea of the dates and the agents you could go to the local library and look in the back issues of the local paper. They're probably on microfiche.

PropertySnake show some houses that have been on and off the market, but I don't know how far back it goes, and even within the period it covers, it's certainly not a complete record. I know it's tricky to find things if they're not actually up for sale at present.

It's a big decision and you want all the data points you can get, but past prices are a bit irrelevant at the end of the day.
