Evening guys,

I need to render a wall about 6ft x 4ft.

What ratio sand to cement would you use?

Nobody will agree on this hehe

I use 4-1 plastering sand - cement

I add a waterproofer too.

Apply 2 coats, 1st coat scratched and allowed to go off overnight. 2nd float coat rubbed up when ready.

Would you treat the brickwork with anything first?

Absolutly spot on.
Keep both coats at 4:1 and waterproofer in both.
If brick then use pva as per instructions.

Yep PVA about 5-1 water-PVA

No real hard and fast rules though, depends on the background and the weather.

Thanks chaps!

Is plaster sand available in B and Q etc etc?

Would you score the first coat?

Yes it is and yes you do. That's why it's called a scratch coat. Put lots of scratches in it so your finish coat has a decent key.

I rendered a wall once, it's quite satisfying really smile

Video here kinda explains it...

1 part lime might of made it easier. Also the **** off a stick method of application keys and stays on much better than spreading if you're a novice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9hQ04tOvrE&pla...
