We have long tunnels just under the suface of the lawn
the grass above the tunnel is dead / dying

I dont think it is moles as there are no molehills and the tunnel is tiny (about an inch across)

I suspect it is possibly caused by voles ..... but not sure

any advice on ridding the lawn of the vermin will be much appreciated

Or wood mices or giant earthworms. Haven't felt any 'tremors' have you?

Could be juvenile mole that's looking for new territory. They "turf run" as they don't have the strength to dig deeper!

Can you take pictures of damage??

You have a woman's hand, milord!

Got to be one of these! http://www.which.co.uk/documents/pdf/mice-and-vole...

Poisoning what may be a protected species would be illegal, so you'll need to trap and identify before you even consider it.

Hmmmmm difficult In photos but

The chewing of the shrub looks ratty
The grass looks like turf running mole

Are you near any river/lake/water at all??

As it could well be vole, which if it is then embrace then as an endangered species and enjoy them as there fk all you can legally do to stop them!! And your looking at big fines if you get caught molesting them!!!

I thought the same, but it also looks to have a pink watch attached. A partner perhaps?

Anyway, we digress.

In this context I read that as mole-sting...

You need a cat.

Ours saw off the moles from our garden - our British Shorthair would sit at the hills waiting for movement, then have the little bugger for dinner.
