Fitting a Fireplace
Discussion
Tomorrows task is to fit a fireplace, something I've never tried before. Couple of Q's for the PH Guru's...
1. Is it possible to secure a marble hearth (using mortar) on top of tiles which are set into the floor? The 1920ish property has fancy deco tiles set into the floor that provide a decent level surface, but will the cement bond to these?
2. What is the best method of fixing the marble facing to the wall? Was thinking along the lines of a no nails type adhesive, however could do with something fairly bulky as the wall is rather uneven i.e. the fixing of the facing plate will be almost 'dot & dab' like if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

One thing, before you stick the marble panel to the wall, if it is a fireplace which consists of several separate pieces that get fitted piece by piece, you should check the rebate measurement of the surround otherwise you might be left with a gap.
For example, if the marble panel is 0.75" thick, and the surround has a rebate of 3", then the panel will have to stick out 2.25" from the wall. If the rebate is 1" then it will only have to stick out 0.25" from the wall.
