In true Baldrick style ..........
I'm about to put a shed along the rear of my breeze/brick garage. I can then put all my car/bike spares etc. in there.
So, I was wondering if it's okay to remove a window and cut out the blocks/bricks below to make a doorway?
There is a window lintel in place with a few row of bricks above it up to the roof line. In time I may put a door and frame in there, but in the mean time is the window linel strong enough with out anything underneath it?
As ever, TIA guys!

In general yes, if there is a lintel over the window you should be fine.

As long as you have a lintel, and you are not going any wider you will be fine.

Make sure you do have a lintel though. I've see a "structural window" in a house, so you could easily have one in a garage.

Or no post at all, denoting 'I am at the bottom of a pile of bricks'

biggrin

TBH there is no such thing as a 'window lintel' IME, a lintel is rated for what is above it - not below. Just make sure you grind out the doorway without smashing the remaining/supporting walls at each side, and for Pete's sake (and yours), use a dusk mask. A 12" grinder with water feed is ideal, as long as you can start the damn thing without ending up in traction.

Or to misquote the quip about altitude, 'weight below it'!
