Need a new boiler as part of a house refurb. Been offered the following but would like some recommendations.....

British Gas - fking expensive, offering a BG 'enhanced' Worcester/Bosch 532, incl fitting/flush etc are over £1k more than the local firm. Warranty not worth anything unless I take out homecare for years 2-10 at £20/month.

Local firm offering the following with full flush, all within a few quid of each other and all with 6 year warranty:
Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28HE
Worcester Greenstar 28 Junior
Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28

Another local fitter is recommending a Glow-worm.

I'm leaning towards the Worcester Greenstar because of its smaller size and ease of locating in a kitchen cupboard but any real life experiences or recommendations?

TIA.

Check to see if the fitter gets a bonus for recommending Glow-worm. I was told that our plumber has had his Summer holiday paid for by a boiler manufacturer by installing their models.

The chap who maintains our boiler said that in his experience Boulter Buderus were the most reliable followed by Worcester Bosch (both are part of the Bosch group now)

My mum has just had a Vaillant fitted, can't recall the model but it is so quiet you only know it's on by looking at the LCD display! It's also very compact. I had a Vaillant in my old house and found it to be very reliable.

I've got a Valiant Ecotech Pro 28. Seems good, no problems, is very quiet.

Another vote for Vaillant here. Ecotec plus 831.

I'd go for the Vaillant, we had one fitted after having it recommended by my father who used to do gas boiler installations. Apparently they have very good aftermarket support should you ever need it. The thing was also really quiet compared to the clunky old thing it replaced.

I install mainly Worcesters, the Greenstar range is very good. If your budget could stretch I'd go for the Si range over the Junior.

They have a few more features, but the main one is the ability to control hot water temperature, which you can not do on the Junior.

Vaillants are good boilers, better build quality than the Worcesters, but I don't like the fact they use rubber hoses which are known to split and make a mess. They may have revised them though.

Also Worcester are offering a 6 year warranty if you use an Accredited Installer up to the 31st of August.

BG have just fitted a Baxi back boiler and fire for me. The cost of the parts is comparable to what I could get them for retail, its all the other bits and bobs that made the job fuggling expensive, despite also getting 2 years free homecare as part of the deal. The 2 day job took nearly 4 weeks, part due to them, part due to their supplier. I would not use them again. Boiler and fire are great though (so far).

I'm yet to see one of these installed, did they have much difficulty installing it?

They have electric fire fronts don't they?

Vaillant, without a doubt. I supply loads of these to customers of mine and have never had one come back. Get in touch if you want a comparable price.

I had a Valiant for 22 years and although in its later years we had a few problems it was always easy to get spares untill 3 years ago when it was just not worth repairing, we opted for the Bosch/ Worster junior and am pleased with it although as someone mentioned you cannot control the temperature of the hot water

Yes electric fire front. This is what was fitted :

http://www.discountedheating.co.uk/shop/acatalog/B...

They didn't have much difficulty installing it (once they got all the right parts) apart from having to deal with an old asbestos collar from the flu on to the previous back boiler.

It's the only BBU to choose from in the UK at the moment, so didn't have a viable alternative as a "swap in" replacement if I didn't want the house ripped apart and losing a cupboard in the kitchen to house a new boiler or have one of those nasty combi things.

I get tired of suggesting Remeha as it feels like .The only issue ive had with them is when I managed to change the programmer into Dutch. All sorted with a five minute phone call.

Our plumber showed me how he scrolls through the software and it's unbelievable. He adjusted the pump over-run because it was an open-vented boiler. Nice touch.
