Now are you sure you don't want to run to a Caterham? Great heritage, well set up out of the box, good residual value...........

Sorry smile

Had two Westies. Great little dogs with big personalities. Now coming a bit too popular though and even more so as a result of featuring in so many adverts recently. However I'd have another, and another any time.

Look for breeders on the Kennel Club's website. Visit the breeder and view the parents.

I'm sure others will add more dos and don'ts

Differs from breed to breed but 8 weeks is about right. So that puts you around October time to start viewing litters/putting a deposit down.

We always had Cairn Terriers when we were kids and my mother still keeps them. I think the Westie amongst other breeds was bred from the Cairn, and the Cairn kind of looks like a Westie but come in different colours and aren't as common. I remember years ago my parent ruled against a Westie over a Cairn due to them having a few more possible health issues. Since living alone I'm not a small dog type person, I love my mothers and look after it when she goes away but it's such a bloody little yap sometimes!

We got our westie from a breeder NR Preston, Lancashire. Not sure if its near you?

only had our Ozzy 2 1/2 weeks, he is the best thing ever cloud9 see: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

We did our research before hand and meet the parents before the pups came, which I would recommend. Also the Best of Breed book on westies is well worth a purchase as it covers everything, inc choosing a breeder
