What is this? Doggy Problem
Discussion
Ringworm is not a worm. It is a fungal infection. There are different treatments available, these days we tend to use a topical treatment rather than tablets (which were called Griseofulvin) I think the topical tx is Imaverol.
It is not treated with worming tablets.
That is quite a severe case and if not responding to tx (how was it diagnosed) it needs further investigation. I assume the dog is under veterinary care.

erm - get the dog to a vet. i am surprised you haven't been and done this before relying on a forum for confirmation. As bex has said it looks quite like established / large area of ringworm
Ringworm can also be passed on to humans, so wash hands etc, and pet bedding
they often catch it from rubbing on places where cows have been itching their ringworm, and the ringworm can live dormant on posts etc for a while.

From my original comment, he's not my dog and i don't see him regularly. He has been wormed prior to adoption and again since.Ringworm can also be passed on to humans, so wash hands etc, and pet bedding

Thanks for the presumption. And he is booked to see vet tomorrow.
His owner isn't exactly well off and if it can be treated with cream saving her money it would be a benefit.
She has won awards for turning what was a potentially put down dog to where he is now.

It will be a vet that needs to px the tx. It will need a proper diagnosis as well. Do you know why they think it is ringworm as it has quite an unusual presentation.
No idea to be honest, someone told her thats what it was hence posting on here.I know that generally there are many vets on here that will offer helpful advice.
I have another question, i will PM you.

Hope your step daughters can get an answer soon. Fingers crossed it's a skin infection rather than ringworm.
erm excuse me, this is my dog and you have no right to use your attitude with me about how i look after my dog. I have studied animal management so therefore i do understand when i need to go to see a vet thank you very much!, and also i have rescued this dog from being euthanized, so now i know there is nothing that i can do to help my dog i am taking him to the vet today. I love my dog more than anything so before you start being judgmental how about you ask before you do.

no one has an attitude, we are all concerned for an animals welfare. You will be reading too much into a simple post- its all very friendly in here (in comparison to some of the other bits of this forum

i shouldn't even have to explain to you. he had a rash before that and i put cream on it and it went straight away, so i did it with that and it did not disappear, so i wormed him and it did not go. So now i have just got back from the vets. I saved his life and your moaning about not getting him to the vets when you would like me to! There is a picture of my dog does he look half dead? NO happy hyper dog.

Well if you know so much about "animal management" and he means so much to you, it's a shame (and surprise) you didn't take him to the vet before now instead of leaving it

hello, i have just come back from the vets and he got some antibiotics and antihistamines they think it is a skin infection. I have to go back next week to let them no how he is doing. Thank you for your help.

That'll be good, I'm interested to see what they think it is, something simple I hope.
Ringworm has nothing to do with worms at all. It's a fungus and sometimes causes a ring as shown by the 1st pic. Diagnosis is key to treatment being successful, so go see the dreaded vitnery and get an answer.....sometimes takes a week or two for a result on ringworm. Doubt that it is RW. And please would all contributors stop being so damn touchy or judgemental, it's so easy to post something that will vaguely offend or to get on a high horse in response....rant over. Hope your dog just has a slight superficial dermatitis, treatment easy and quick.

Glad it looks like an infection as I'd hoped, much better to tx than ringworm! (well most of the time it is!)bexVN said:

Please try not to get too worked up re other posts most only have your pets interest at heart even if the replies do seem a bit curt. I know you obviously only want to see your pet well and asking on here is fine but most of the time a response will be (as I did) visit your vet.
Anyway wish your dog a speedy recovery

Nb Just a tip but if you post again and quote someone write after the one your quoting not before (as it looks like I'm quoting myself

My post wasn't meant to be mean, but am surprised at many people asking for vet advice here which often seems to delay prompt treatment, or trying to find other ways of getting treatment for POM's etc without a vet prescription.
Great for rescuing a dog, but thats the start. glad you got it looked at properly.
