Evening all, after a fairly damp walk While towelling him down I came across these.

They dont seem to cause him any pain when pressed or manipulated but look angry.

Any ideas? Obviously I will take him to the vet tomorrow, but wondered if the pet people of PH had any thoughts.

How old is Basil? Poppy had something similar recently, turned out to be juvenile pyoderma. It was treated with a couple of weeks' worth of antibiotics.

almost 9 months.

Just read up on it. Sounds nasty in advanced stages, how is poppy now?

Does he wear a harness or was he wearing a coat?

Pyoderma Is a possibility. Small chance of being his glands. Ck up sensible.

No harness, although he sometimes has a long line when we go to the park as he is prone to legging it. I wondered if it might be rubbing as he mooches about with it on.

Might be worth checking it out with your vet if it doesn't ease up of its own accord within a day or so - Poppy is about the same age as Basil (she was 9 months last week). Poppy's pyoderma started in exactly the same place, but we left it for a couple of days because she's always picking up scratches from brambles and we thought she'd got a scratch infected. But the infection spread round to the front of her chest, so that was when we saw the vet.

Poppy's absolutely fine now. The hair on her shoulder hasn't grown back properly yet, and the skin under what hair there is is slightly discoloured. But the sore and itchy bits have all gone away. It ended up looking a bit like chickenpox - sort of blistery, sore lumps. We're keeping an eye on it, but so far so good.

How is Basil today, any better?

Morning, cheers for the responses.

Good to hear Poppy is ok now. Was it just a course of drugs?

No different this morning. and it still doesn't seem to be bothering him, but ive booked a trip to the vet tonight. Will keep you posted.

Poppy's pyoderma took about 3 days to turn into the nasty, itchy, spreading rash she ended up with from the time it started. If Basil does have pyoderma, hopefully you'll have caught it early.

Yep, she was given a week's worth of Synulox, but this didn't clear it all up so she had another week's worth. Five days into that course, she started bringing up her food (over and over... you know what dogs are like!) so I took her off the Synulox in anticipation of a visit to the vet booked for 2 days later. She's been fine ever since.

Our vet also suggested Piriton (the stuff you buy in the chemist's) in case it was an allergy and not pyoderma, but we've not used it since the Synulox cleared it up. If you go down that route, though, do check with your vet beforehand because Basil is probably smaller than Poppy (27 kg) so the dosages will be different.

Good luck, let us know how he gets on!

Well then, just an infected scratch, might have caught a brambles while out Beagling in the woods.

Antibiotics a cautious dose of Advocate just incase a mite got in and salt water baths. oh and £80 please.

still its a relief.

thanks for all advice.
