Evening all. Our GSD is on daily Pancrex tablets (one, twice a day) following a bout of pancreatitis earlier this year. Since the illness and taking these, she is if anything a healthier, happier dog than ever.

MrsC has gone to visit her parents, taking the dog with her as I'm out all day tomorrow, and she's forgotten to take the tablets with her. And she's about 100 miles away. She'll be home tomorrow evening....so, do I need to make an emergency cross-country dash, or will 2 meals/36 hours without the Pancrex be fine?

Many thanks....

Not a vet by any means but have had dog with pancreatitis and colitis before, 36 hours will be fine, maybe skightly runny poo's for a day or so but nothing to worry about, give normal meals but dont give treats, treats and scraps are what will upset the belly anyway.

I am a vet student so hopefully i can be of some help.
Although the pancrex will be out of her system before the 36 hours are up she should be okay to do without. The pancreatitis you have described doesn't sound major at all so i think that she will manage okay without until Mrs. C returns. The dog may be experiencing some symptoms by the time she returns but a swift top up should stem the flow and put her back into normal rhythm.

Hope this helps.

Great, thanks very much both of you, yes, I did think those might be the aide effects! She (the dog!) was ill for about 4 days when it happened, spent couple of days in the vets on obs, she seemed quite poorly at the time but recovered quickly too.

As said by the previous replies, the pancreatitis is unlikely to come back quite so suddenly, avoid fatty and rich food, and watch out for dull/depressed signs. Pancrex is a rather weak preventive, but easily given over long periods and well tolerated.

Thanks again, we are very careful what we feed her these days so she will just be on her regular diet as recommended of small amounts of Chappie with kibble, which seems to suit her well. No scraps and sadly for her no treats!
