a quick question.
Can a dog be autistic?
we have seven month old basset who is showing some rather odd signs.if something is new to a room this fella will proper freak out and takes quite a while to settle not minutes it can be hours.when i say settle he is at the point of shaking.his tail down head down and wimpering.i am sure some stuff could be down to his age.at 1st his total dislike of cushions on a one sofa, not both only one was funny now its just his thing no shredding them no playing with them he just hops up pushes them off and on his way he goes.when he is out with us he is fine with other dogs and owners and will play in the house with the older dog,so i don't think its a confidence issue.
sorry for the edit not a lot of time this morning

Research has found out that animals think the way like autism savants. Even some people with autism claimed that their thinking processes are like an animal’s. Animals are visual thinkers, they store their memories with pictures. In other words, animals make visual associations, just like autistic people. Fear is the most important emotion in animals, especially prey animals as sheep or horses. Fear is also the main emotion in autistic children.
Pet animals showed autistic behaviors because of the lack of attention, which is called “Attention Energy”. Animals need this attention energy to keep normal and alive. Once the attention they achieve is much too little, they would develop autism-like behaviors for the sake of attention.
Therefore, to solve this problem, and put autism-like dogs or cats back to normal, you need to spend more time with the pet, let it feel the warmth of love, play with it with caring concerns. Pets need attention and love just like children. If you don’t give them enough, they will get “sick”.

he has company most of the day and he is such a crazy dog you can't ignore him for long.he is quite happy sniffing round the garden very much a outdoor dog but move a plant pot from one place to another and that's his head gone until its moved back.
Sounds interesting! what does he do until it is moved back? and the second it is back does he revert back to 'normal behaviour'?Boris is very similar, in the way he HATES things being moved, or if a new piece of furniture is introduced, he will bark and puff and pant until either a) its moved back to where it was or b) i have to take new item of furniture out of the room, so that he can 'wake up' the next day to it being there!

It won't do anything to his potential 'autistic tendancies' have you tried a pheremone such as DAP, which comes in a handy plug in, it may help to keep him calm and not get so worked up should something start the behaviour off?I also have a yorky so I understand dogs with issues
