I'm sitting here watching our fat cat asleep "walking" (paws padding along) and "hunting" whilst fast asleep. Her arms and paws are moving but she's staying still. Clearly dreaming of mouse hunting.

Is this unique to our cat or common amongst animals?

Mine do it.

My 'kitten' (actually 4 now but he hasn't noticed yet) has ridiculously active sleep sometimes, not just twitches but quite big movements, I'm sure I saw a pounce the other night! He also occasionally gets hiccups in his sleep, which is hilarious.

The girls (5 and a half) do too but not to such a big degree as the little'un.

My parents' dog does as well, was away on holiday with them in October and had her sleeping on my bed.

Our Millie gets quite animated dreaming, nose twitching, feet waving around, even to the point of small yips and half barks - sometimes she wakes herself up doing it.

Its funny to watch thats for sure.

Cat was on my lap the other night dreaming, front feet furiously moving....

One of the dogs will whine, wag his tail, and all four legs go like the clappers.....

both my dog and cat have very animated dreams.

the cat you can see all paws and legs going hunting, then you see her mouth doing eating movements or something.

the dog as well as twitching and small running movements he also does little yips or barks but with his mouth closed, so they are funny muffled woofs. his whiskers also wrinkle loads and he sometimes growls.

there is that utube clip of the dog sleepwalking and running into a wall....

Our cockatiel Spike, or "King of all he surveys" as he considers himself, with some regrettable regularity while fast asleep will fall off his perch.

Quite amusing in itself but this turns to anxiety for the poor little blighter as he flaps around the bottom of his cage in a total blind panic until he finally figures out he's not in any danger of any kind.

The "meeting other dogs that I don't like" while he's asleep annoys me.

Muffled little woofs - they don't wake the dog up, but they sure wake me up!

You'd be pressed to beat this dreaming dog for moving in his sleep!

Our retired racing greyhound Eddie twitches and moves his legs in his sleep, barks and makes a funny muffled barky noise. When he is awake I have never heard him growl, in his sleep he growls, shows his teeth and is much more aggressive to the imaginary dogs in his dreams than he is to anything when he is awake lol
