JESUS CHRIST IN RICHMOND PARK - Labrador "Benton" chasing de
Discussion
Oh wow, yes there are serious ramifications, but... This is so funny, as most dog owners have had a similar experience. Although our dogs did not become Internet celebrities.

Has his owner appeared anywhere yet? I'd be cringing.

No update on the owner, but I expect a journo will want to track him down. The original video has been posted on so many sites, including the US. Also I may order the t-shirt ;-)

Poor bloke. I've just googled for news and this seems to be huge as you say. Love the mention of invoking memories of Alan Partridge and 'Dan'

Blasphemy is so posh.
funny clip
however, i have been in the same position a few years ago, and it was scary. you wonder how on earth you get your dog back as he dissapears into the distance before the park wardens shoot him!
I'd walked mine hundreds of times near our local deer and he never paid them any atttention until that one day my little Lancashire Heeler decided that they needed herding! I've never been so scared of loosing him. After about 5 mins of me spriting after him (with endurance i found from adrenalin) i got him back. I am sooo wary now any time we see deer.

my staffy likes to get a closer look at the deer in richmond park, she gets about 4-5 feet away, barks ,then legs it!
the first time she did this, she dissapeared in the fens ,must of caught a wiff of them and i couldn't see her at all then they chased her, she came out of the fens and went past me so fast with about 5 deers chasing!!
i had to leg it too, i had to swing my lead about and shout to stop them. she was so far away leaving me behind watching, looking at me like 'what you doing back there!'
at the moment there culling the deer in richmond and the males were rutting so its pretty dangerous for people and dogs.

Two of my three kids don't find this at all amusing. I'm still giggling now.
However, whilst I find it amusing, I can also appreciate how dangerous the situation could have been.
Most of the comments on (I know) The Sun's online article seem to be condemning the dog owner and calling him irresponsible etc. Now I realise, living in the country, dogs should be under control and leashed near livestock. I had however assumed that 'Benton' had slipped his leash and this incident was an accident. My dog has slipped a leash before now and disappeared into woods for a time. If she'd have been shot I'd have been upset but fully understand the risks. As I'm sure 'Benton's' owner did, judging by the escalating panic in his voice.
I hope both dog, owner, livestock and any traffic involved were all safe. It would be nice to have an update at some point.
