Ok, bear with me people! This is my first cat that I got a year or so ago by accident so I'm not really an experienced cat owner yet...

The cat in question is nearly 2 years old and is usually highly active, spending a bit of time outside running about and when he's inside he also runs around the place a bit, plays with toys and suchlike. Always interacts with people, comes downstairs to see me when I get in and often 'starts fights' with house guests by savaging their limbs using teeth and claws...

But for the last week he has done nothing but sleep in his bed upstairs, or sit on the rug in the living room not moving and staring at the floor.

He is barely responding to my requests and only drags himself outside for a piss briefly and comes right back in and goes back to bed. He's walking up and down the stairs really slowly as though it's a big effort.

Any ideas?

Just add... He is still eating and drinking each day, but again, he doesn't seem like he can be arsed to do that either!

There is only one answer. You must phone a vet and get him seen. Get him seen today. It's one thing for then to lessen their activities as the weather changes but this is too extreme and not right.

There is nothing else I could or should advise you to do. It's what I'd tell anyone who phoned me at work with this.

I'm sure he's going to be fine but he needs veterinary help.

I'd get him along to the vet right away !

Our cats will often be off colour for a day or 2 maybe, often after a scrap or having eaten something they shouldnt but a week is too long !

Vet, as soon as possible. Poor kitty is clearly suffering in some way.

Needs investigation, could be as simple as an infection. Hope it gets sorted for you and moggy.

Good luck mate.

My Bengal has off days, she sometimes refuses to go out, skulks around and moans a lot. But its normally just for a day if its raining outside hehe

cats can be really poorly without showing major signs of illness, if my cat is even slightly off colour he is straight to the vet, hope everything is ok OP

IMO, the car went outside and saw a dog. It now knows it's a comparitively crap animal, and has become depressed. Show it a goldfish, and it'll realise that in the scheme of things, it's still above average.

Hi all,

I took the cat to the vet as promised and the vet thought he was in the recovery stages of a of a virus or similar.

The signs were a dry warm nose and hot ears, and of course the fact the cat was behaving as described.

But anyway there wasn't anything they could do and I just had to make sure the cat was still eating and drinking, which he is.

Strangely, he does seem better today, been a bit more active and been in and out a bit.The nose is also back to being cold and wet.

Good news smile

Wasn't expecting that ending - the cat we were looking after was just the same as this and it turned out it had a stroke and its back legs were paralysed - had to be put down. frown
