Rehoming Beagle,

No, not our Basil, but I received the following from the lady that runs our puppy and scent courses, she thought we might know of someone that would like to take on a Beagle:
This is a bit of a long shot, but a client of mine has decided to try and rehome her Beagle and has asked for my help. I went to see her in February because the dog was barking at strange dogs. She is a lovely dog, but it has now got to the stage where she gets so wound up when she sees other dogs that the other day she bit her owner when she saw another dog – she was frustrated and her owner just happened to be there. Because she has bitten none of the rescues centres will take her, but her owners don’t want her to be put down. The dog responded really well to the training when I was with her and I’m surprised that she has got to this stage. I do know she spends most of her time alone in a kennel and she is on a really poor diet (or was) so this may have something to do with it. So, if you know of anyone that wants a beagle project let me know. Details are available on the Beagle Welfare website.
I thought I'd open it up as it breaks my heart to hear of a Beagle being destroyed, but we just haven't the room, time to take on another (as much as we would love to).

This may sound strange as I am heavily involved in rescue, but there are many, many worse things than being pts 
A beagle is not the easiest dog anyway, and this is a beagle with issues and sounds very much like she has not been socialised at all. The bite would have been re-direction, but she needs an owner who is knowledgeable about behaviour modification. The chances of someone who has the knowledge, capabilities, time and space for this dog are slim to none.
The danger is that someone will take this dog on out of pity and not be able to cope, so the poor dog will be stressed, probably bounced from one home to another until ultimately deciding that pts is the only option.
Best to take that stress away from her in the first place.

Really gets to me -my dog was a rescue - he ( on lead) barks at any dog - my suspicion is that his first owners never socialised him ,and got upset when any dog got close to him , giving vent to his protective idea . Since I've had him , he gets on well with most breeds ( socialises with GS many times his size ) and socialises with any other terrier (apart from Staffies as he's been attacked by some -so he gets in first).Westies /borders/ Dachs -he's great with .
Even BEAGLES - he gets on great with them - but this sort of dog needs a person who's experienced with dogs . I'd suggest someone who can spoil it( to get it's love & trust ) ,with a level of disipline based on corrective treatment .For example - mine has ALWAYS been used to travelling on the rear seat on my car . When we transport grandson ,dog goes in boot of hatchback . He's complained ,and snarled etc .I then take him back to house, lock up and go . Returning a few minutes later - he allows me pick him up etc .
