My Springer had a big operation on his stomach and intestines last Friday and as part of the recovery he needs to be on wet food for a while. The supply the vet gave me has nearly run out so I need to stock up, but I've never bought any before so I could do with some recommendations please.

Chicken and rice would be good as the blandness is ideal for him right now, and it needs to be something available from supermarkets.

TIA

I'd ask your vets really, can you not get more food from them? failing that the only wet food I'd advise from the supermarket would be tinned chappie.

if it HAS to be wet then "naturediet" is one of the better ones, not available from supermarkets, get down and support your local pet shop

Did consider suggesting this one but I think it could still be a bit rich and high fat post intestinal surgery. My parents dog is on it and he loves it smile (He's a fussy beggar). I'd still be advising a veterinary diet over anything else for now though esp not knowing his case.

Have you considered tripe/chicken mince/beef mince - all raw natural foods which should help your hound !!?

I had a few other things to remember about tablets etc when I picked him up yesterday so I didn't ask TBH. I'm taking him back on Saturday for a check up so I'll ask then and try to sweet talk some more Royal Canin special feed out of them!

I'll give the Chappie a go as there's no decent pet shops within 10 miles and I reckon the traffic's going to be mad tomorrow...

Will throw in some mince beef too, he loves it. Thanks for the tips thumbup

We feed chicken and rice when our springer is poorly but I'm guessing that time is the issue. I've never fed wet food so can't suggest anything but more importantly I hope your boy is doing OK and recovering well?

Hold off the Mince beef. Too rich post surgery. Wait until he's been signed off by the vet and prob ok to offer then (though not knowing the reason for his surgery this may still be off limits by your vet) Hope he continues to get better ok smile

He can be a bit picky about chicken and rice, sometimes not eating all the rice. Will steer clear of the mince for a bit then.

He only left the vets yesterday having had the op last Friday but the recovery is going well thanks. He manages to wag his tail a bit every now and then smile

I'll start another thread about the cause of the problem to act as a warning to other dog owners!

Oh dear, sounds like you and he have had a tough time, hope he makes a good recovery. They are pretty resilient our Springers, fingers crossed all goes well.
