My brother and his girlfriend have a lovely 6 month old kitten, but the little thing has a serious drooling problem.
When i visited at the weekend i picked the kitten up for a cuddle and he immediately snuggled into my neck and rubbing his face against my cheek, which at first i thought was rather cute. Whilst snuggling in he was also 'kneading/pawing' with his paws. When put the cat down i touched the side of my face and it was soaked. In less than a minute he has completely cover the side of my face and neck in drool to the point of i had to get a cloth to wipe it off. I spoke to my brother about this and he said the kitten has always done this and it's why the previous owners gave him away. They have also since been told that the kitten was taken away from it's mother too early.

We've had cats for years and none of our kittens have ever done this. So does anyone know if this common, or if there is anything which can be done to help stop the drooling?

Drooling when happy is normal, one of my cats does it the moment you start stroking him.

It can sometimes be caused by the kitten being taken away from it's mother too soon.

If the kitten is drooling excessively even when left alone get it checked by a vet as it could be something more serious.

As above.... One of my cats has always drooled. Worth taking a peek at the teeth, but to be honest it sounds like a normal happy cat.

Not so unusual, behaviour fits with early separation from his Mum aswell. There are varying degrees of how much cats drool some it's minor. My friends cat still dribbles now and she's almost 17, done it all her life.

It could be worse at the mo with teething.

One of our cats dribbles too when happy but this was something else. I wiped my face twice with my hand and each time my hand was totally soaked and then turned to the cloth to clear the rest up. The kittens face was soaked too.

I'll be seeing him today so I'll talk to him about getting the kitten checked over by a vet to be on the safe side.

my old girl who is 20 will kneed you with her paws and suckle on your jumper whilst doing so, resulting in a huge wet patch on my t shirt/jumper. bless her
