Hi all,

Noticed cat come in yesterday with what first looked like dirt in/on his ear. Turned out to be dried blood, didn't seem to be in any discomfort and there was a small cut on the outside of his ear. Tried to clean it, but he was having none of it.

Fast forward to this evening, there is a black spot on his ear (I am not sure if this is just the dried blood still) and a strong smell coming from his ear. I have put some iodine on it to try and slow the infection, again he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, he is eating fine and generally being his normal self (Including washing the ear in question), but his ear seems a little twitchy.

I will be taking him to the vets regardless tomorrow, but is there anything I could/should be doing that anyone can recommend?

Unfortunately not. I don't really have any proper antibacterial cleaners. I am trying to find anywhere open that will sell something similar but there are very few shops still open nearby.

Well I guess tomorrow at the vets will be soon enough, if needs be antibiotics will help I am sure.

Good luck (likely to be a scrap injury I reckon - one of ours had a huuuge slice in her tail due to the large and aggressive moggy over the road) with it, I am sure it will be fine, cats are incredibly resiliant..

Iodine is an acceptable cleaner. Not much more you can do this evening. Appt tom will be fine. Keep him in, try and get an am appt. Poss not give breakfast incase needs more than a quick clean and abios.

You co try germolene. Our cat had a cut on his face from a scrap which resulted in a pussy mess.
Popped a bit of germolene on it and a few
Hours later it had stopped pussing

You were fortunate. Pus means bacteria. Germolene ok to try but it is an antiseptic not an antibacterial. Often the wounds seem to clear up then flare again a few days later.

Thanks all.

It is most likely a scrap injury as he's a little blighter for getting into scraps (Particularly with his brother!), this is the first time either of them has actually had an injury though.

He is now fast asleep with his ear tucked under him so can't be bothering him too badly. It doesn't half pong though!
