In the cavy(guineapig world)there is a virus, bug or whatever killing huge amounts of stock(over 500 to date), some studs have lost 80+ animals in 1 day,
there are no symptoms, just mass sudden death,pm`s have come back showing nothing,
PLEASE if you know/hear of large numbers dieing please get in touch as we are trying to collect as much info as possible,
any further deaths are being sent for specialised pm

Any possible link to rabbit vhd. I know that's crossing the species barrier but it's a virus and so can mutate. I was just thinking they are often housed together and sudden death and high numbers is very similar symptoms.

I'm sure it's already been considered by those in the know but don't know what else could cause this.

Hope they find an answer very soon.

pms have been done but came back inconclusive, any further losses will be sent to a specialised pm department.
most studs are in lock down with no exhibiting or selling or taking in new stock

Bloody hate these sudden death issues.

I'm on look out for a strange virus that deforms newborn sheep and cattle at the moment.
