I was making breakfast this morning and my bulldog was standing behind me making his presence known with his breed's characteristic breathe-through-the-nose snuffling noises.

There are so many reasons why I would only ever own bulldogs, but I think the slightly concerned-sounding snuffles they make as they mooch about are the one single thing that does it for me. But I've no doubt that everyone who's made a deliberate decision to own a breed thinks the same about theirs.

So go on, what breed and what single trait?

Oh, and pics are welcome:

Golden Retriever, the most loyal, loving, mental animal I have ever had the pleasure of owning. But the one thing that makes him special? Well, whenever I go out onto the doorstep for a cigarette (I know I know), he HAS to come with me, no matter what, I think it's because he thinks I'm an idiot who needs constant supervision, the trouble is that it always results in me having a dead foot biggrin

Whippet - so gentle (at home that is, possibly not if he were to ever catch a rabbit or squirrel smile)

This. Regardless of my mood after a day at work he is always pleased to see me and makes me smile by fetching one of his toys to me as soon as I walk through the door..........or not if the greedy git is scoffing his grub biggrin

This is making me look forward to finishing work today and going home to be greeted by 'his royal mentalness' biggrin

Mine's a staffy.

I like the way they make snuffly snort noises, sit on your foot, are absolutely nuts, have bounds of energy yet can still chill out and his face when you say "walkies".

He's so, so gentle with kids, yet loves 'wrestling' with me.

His farts stink though.

Black Labs - reliable.

The Mondeo of the dog world, they just do the job with minimal fuss - whether that is going for a walk, working, playing with kids or curling up on the sofa with you after a hard day's work.

And of course they can be relied on to eat anything and everything, whether you want them to or not!

A massive dog in so small a body. ( only he's not so small as he should be, but then he's almost 11.)
Nothing is done for an owner through threats. They fear almost nothing. Yet they'll do anything for love . And there possibly one of the oldest of the British breeds .

The way he sort of skips along with carefree abandon, until he gets a scent, then instinct kicks in and he is off. Nose down, tail skyward, and he makes a snuffling noise similar to a pig truffling.

OP wanted SINGLE trait smile, difficult to pick one though isn't it (I could have had a long list for my whippet)

Fair enough, It is impossible though.

I think the way he huffs as he settles down for a snooze. Melts the missus' heart.
