Afternoon,

Now we've got out hens all happy, cat and dogs running about we thought it was time for the next part of out plan...

Pygmy Goats.. Don't ask me why but my wife wants a couple, we have about an acre, lots of scrub in there so they'll have plenty to do..

Anyone got any?

Nope but looking at buying some in the future. I have a place for them which includes 10 ton of rock to climb on. Their rather cute but can be buggers to breed properly I've been told.

I used to have three, they were enormous fun and great entertainment. If you have the time and space, get some!

Try this site for guidance http://www.pygmygoatclub.org/

I used to feed a special food for pygmy goats from the local pet food supplier, meadow hay and warm water to drink. They love brussels and other fruit and veg as treats. Their bedding was barley straw. They need their hooves trimming regularly and treating with powder to prevent lice (I didn't know about the lice at first and ended up with them all standing together one morning stamping their hooves looking like they were auditioning for Riverdance). They also need vaccinations.

They enjoy climbing and are great escape artists being very curious creatures, especially if they see a tasty looking plant that is out of reach. They didn't eat any of the lawn but had a go at nearly every other plant that I had. I allowed mine out of their pen into the main garden and sometimes into the back room of the house. They got on well with my dogs and I do have a photo somewhere (back in the UK) of them all lying on the lawn in the sun.

When we return to the UK, will I get some more? Yes! Just need to find a house with suitable land.
