As per title, but how harmful to dogs. I love it ,and little( or not so little at 11.5kg) Toby goes daft on it . Point is -will it harm him ,in small bits ,as in a treat. There's an added advantage, that as he's allergic to flea bites, he'll be less at risk with garlic in his blood, as biters don't like it . He's on Frontline most of the year , as a precaution, but any extra help against the blood suckers would help .We found in Africa that putting a clove in the food meant no bites from mozzies.

Well, there is no problem with feeding dogs garlic per se, we add it in powder form to their meals as a natural flea and tick treatment.

I've heard that Frontline is no longer effective as a flea treatment. Could explain why the dog's getting bitten.

Definitely getting more reports back from clients suggesting it is not as effective (company denying that there is any thing to show this) I still use it on my 3 cats and my dog and I have no flea issue. I'd suggest time to change products.

As long as not too much garlic can't see it'd be a problem, as already mentioned it is used as a natural flea repellent. (Though it doesn't aslways work)

I've never used anything but Frontline on him, since I got him three years ago ,and after his first problems, we've had no more. It's just that he goes daft on garlic sausage, and as it's got garlic, will help to deter any nastys from deciding to get some blood. It was just how much is a balance between preventing attack and doing him harm .As said, we spent three years in Africa ,where her indoors was allergic to mozzy bites and we found a bit of garlic in our food stopped any problems. My job required me to be out and about at all hours, and after sticking a bit of garlic in our food ,I was never bitten .

One of my cats seem resistant to frontline too, now I use Advocat and never had a problem with fleas since.

No - he's never had a flea problem since I put him on FRONTLINE. That wasn't the question .The question was that he loves garlic sausage, and as garlic helps prevent blood suckers, how much is a balance between him being flea free and good for his well being, given that garlic in the bloodstream helps to keep blood suckers at bay . It's a question of knowing what's a treat ,and good for a pet, over what's over doing it and harming the pet .

Oh okay sorry for the misunderstanding. In which case i would think that as long as you aren't feeding him on pure garlic then it shouldn't damage him really. One or two cloves per bowl of food should be enough. Personally i would rely on another flea treatment if you find Frontline isn't working, perhaps Advocate which i think has been spoken of already.

Same problem Frontline WAS his flea treatment, but it seems that some form of Euro dictate removed one of the active ingredients.

Advantage is now his replacement and it seems to be as good as Frontline used to be.

I doubt the garlic content will hurt, not so sure about the salt though...

Now that's a different problem. Did notice the salt content, and as he's an older dog, I'm limiting the amount he gets.

I know salt is very bad for cats, and even worse for slugs.

Wondering if perhaps we should put some sausage down to see the effect on slugs.

I found a flea on my Greyhound last year so went to the vets and bought some Frontline. After putting the Frontline on him as directed he got up on the sofa for a sleep. When he got off the sofa the Frontline had taken off the coating of the leather sofa. The leather sofa was left with a three inch by one inch bleached permanant removal of the leather stain. If it did that to a leather sofa god knows what it did to my dogs skin. I won`t be using Frontline again.

That's because frontline contains an alcohol base. Perfectly harmless to the skin unless your doh has very sensitive skin

It has been on the market over 20yrs, it is a very safe product.

Our cat Noodles has a flea allergy, Frontline still seem to work fine with her.
