Chaps

Can anyone here tell me what is wrong with the family dog? Should we be worried? His symptoms are:

- Shaking
- Dry nose
- Lathergy

When we call his name he trys to look and show "excitement" in the usual way, but its almost like his body is too heavy for him to move (he is not a a fat dog, very healthy and lean). He is 14 years old.

Any advice? We can take him to a vet right away, but is this something that is going to pass?

Cheers

D

I am not in any way trained but I would take him to the vet, I believe a dry nose can be a sign dehydration.

I thought of dehydration, we are keeping an eye on his water intake

I'd be straight on the phone to the vet, they surely would be able to advise if your dog needs seeing (I'm no vet but I think if that were my dog I'd be straight down the vets)

Hope all goes ok

Thanks for the replies guys.

So the dog seems alot better, his nose is now wet and he's been out lazing in the sun which seems to have done him the world of good. We will keep an eye on him in the next 24 hours and see how it goes.

14 is ancient for most breeds of dog so what is he? for example i would expect a 14 year old lab to be a bit lethargic in the morning! smile

If you aren't going to take him as an emergency (which for unexplained shaking and lethargy I personally would) then still make an appointment with the vet in normal consulting times to have him checked out. At 14 he isn't a spring chicken, and the sooner any potential issues are diagnosed, the better. We actually lost our 10 year old Border Collie because he was diagnosed a couple of days too late.

+1- Mine is almost 11, and always is looking for a walk ,or titbits. He's a terrier (or terror), but if he showed any signs as you've described , I'd be straight down the vet . Cure might be simple, or he's got major problems. Or he's at the stage ( I'm afraid we all get there) where the best solution is release from his misery. Something that takes a lot of love and courage from the owner. He's your best friend, it's up to you to do the best for him .
EDIT - If my dog had those symptoms, I'd be asking vet, not posting on a forum .
