friends dog sneezing blood... assistance please.
Discussion
I have a friend and his dog is sneezing blood out and the pills the vet gave him didn't work and well...
dog hates injections which is the other option, and ideas?
(will find out the pills shortly)
Have asked him diet/how long/what it looks like.
Any queries you can think of I can get answers for but as non pet owner I don't know what to ask him.

It's an 8 year mioritic shepard about 55-60 kg. It has a cold although it doesn't lack fur and outside are 10 degrees at night and it made it through a -20 degrees celsius winter... I can hear it can't breathe normally, plus it has some boogers and when it sneezes i can find blood drops in the yard... The medic recommended a 5 days treatment with Bromhexine, that is used to treat respiratory disorders associated with viscid or excessive mucus. Within these days the nose bleeds stopped but reappeared as soon as the treatment was over.
I called the vet and when he tried to give an injection to the dog, it wanted to bite him, so he recommended some vitamin K supliments.. I only asked on boards because i'm a sucker for animals, especially mine

Needs to go back to the vet for further assessment.
Has the dogs nose been xrayed, are its teeth ok, have they taken swabs. How long has it been going on for?
As you can see lots of questions. This could have the potential to be serious so injections could be the least of its problems.
I hope it's nothing but dogs don't have nosebleeds in the same way we do.
Eta after reading 2nd post - dogs don't really get colds, they can however get pneumonia. Also fungal infections which damage the insides of the nose, this can cause sneezing, mucus and bleeding.
He really needs to go back to the vets.

from him, he is outside of the uk:
I know it's not the same. There aren't xray machines for animals unfortunately
The only thing i know for sure is that its teeth are ok, there is no dental abscess, it hasn't been hit and it hasn't been poisoned. It all started a week ago all of the sudden and it scared the beep out of me..
It was a long shot, thank you so much for trying!!!!!
other than going back to the vets... anymore ideas on what is up?

I'm assuming he's in the back of beyond if not even xray machine, this is fairly basic equipment now.
Apart from the suggestions I've already made the other thing is a foreign body up the nose but as said this all means more investigating, I really don't think there are any quick fixes. Sorry couldn't offer more help.

You quoted him as saying "I only ask on boards.." and say he is outside the UK. If he is referring to boards.ie and is in Ireland then there are plenty of well equipped vets with X-Ray equipment and more. Or if money is an issue he could try the Blue Cross.
Its not that its an issue, its that he is from Romania and says there are no x-ray machines that are used on pets.Du1point8 said:
passed all the details on, thanks so far.
To be honest there isn't enough information about the dog to give an exact diagnosis, it could for example be just a grass seed stuck in the dogs nose and it is irritating it, or it could be much worse the scope is massive. Unfortunately Romania isn't a very welfare conscious country in terms of animals at least, i have seen pictures of horses in a romanian vet school in the most awful condition. Best bet would be a british charity or similar as has been suggested already. Gassing Station | All Creatures Great & Small | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
