We've just returned from the vets for the twice yearly vaccinations. The good news for bunny owners is that the VHD and myxi jab is now combined AND only needed to be given once a year.

Hooray!

The bad news? Treacle needs another tooth out. So we saved about £80 on the vaccines...and he's going to cost another £200.

Thought I'd share the info.

Also, don't forget that flystrike season is nearly upon us again.

That is good news for us. Having lost two bunnies with VHD and having the possibility of mixi around a single jab is a good money saver.

Hmm, might need to see if we will be doing this. You wouldn't happen to know the brand of the vaccine. Vets tend to stock particular makes so it may be a different company offering this vacc compared to our main make. Would be a lot easier, obviously for the rabbits safety we have never been able to do the two vaccs at the same time, it would be so much better if we could.

Sorry to hear that Treacle needs more dental work.

I'll let you know Bex when the vaccs cards come through the post (will have batch stickers on) it seems a really good product as its a) cheaper and b) much more convenient.

(does this help... The box was white with a brown sandy rabbit on it and had orange writing....)

At least this surgery is planned and a 5th of the price of an emergency.

Oh and apparently now the rear guard stuff for flystrike- have been told not to follow instructions and use a whole bottle as apparently half a bottle per rabbit in may and then again July will surfice.

I'd agree with that. We've often only used half as some bunnies are almost drowning in the stuff by the time you've finished!

Thanks for that. It's quite possible it's already in the pipelines for us but I'll be the last too know! (part timer - miss out on the updates sometimes) I'll be asking next week.

Seems our vets aren't doing this yet unfortunately, took the buns for their vaccinations a couple of days ago and it was the usual myxi today and VHD in a couple of weeks routine.

Think I'm lucky that my current buns keep themselves very clean, never use products to avoid fly strike, just check their bums twice a day.

We usually do too but he said that by the time you know something is wrong, it's too late. Which made us worry..so we'll be using it this year especially as they'll be outside most of the time we hope. (only during the day though)
