Can a dog get mange more than once?
Discussion
I'm probably over reacting but Jess had mange last year and it took almost 5 months to diagnose then another month or so to sort her out. Since then (about 7 months) she has been fine other than a little bit of dry skin where the scabs were.
This morning I notice she has a bit of matted fur on her cheek. I think she must have been going through a bin bag or something but on closer inspection it's a very small area (about half inch) that has yellow puss (not much but enough to notice). Initial thoughts is it could be a scratch from her walk yesterday but her fur is that thick I can't see a scratch but my biggest worry is that the mange might have returned!!
Is this possible as I'm really worried now.

Yes they can get mange more than once. Surprised it took so long to diagnose last time. If ever suspected it's easy to treat with eg Stronghold (and won't hurt if not mange)
In this case it actually sounds like a hot spot causing eczema. Still good idea to get it checked. If it is an infected hot spot it may need antibiotics and steroid cream.
What breed is she?
Not sure how hibiscrub can work. It's an antibacterial skin scrub and mange mites bury below the skin.

She's a German shep/ridgeback cross.
I've got her booked in at the Vets this evening so fingers crossed.
Just wondering as some breeds seem more prone to hot spots than others labs, retrievers and rotties mainly but obviously any dog can get them.I've got her booked in at the Vets this evening so fingers crossed.
Hopefully it's nothing too much

Hmm. As I said though it does work for me. Without scrubbing, just cleaning. Perhaps a mis-diagnosis on my part.Edited by bexVN on Thursday 5th April 11:45
It is often used to clean the skin as mites often cause secondary skin infections but just won't kill the mites itself.

. I suspected it was what it seems to have been and Fuciderm is standard treatment.
