RIP Yogi - you almost made it..
Discussion
Another month, and our King Charles Spaniel would have reached 18 years of age, the same age as my step-daughter. But today, we couldn't let him suffer any longer, after multiple strokes over the past couple of years, fits, turning blind, and hardly able to stand and head shaking all of the time - and moaning constantly when awake, he went to the vet. The vet couldn't believe the age of him, but he said that putting him to sleep was the only humane decision we could make.
At least we can safely say that Yogi had a good and healthy life, and always enjoyed interacting with our other dogs (even if it was always Yogi on the recieving end of the other dogs giving him a good rogering.....)
This was taken a few months ago, just before he got really bad,

And one that was taken about 7 years ago:

I thought he was going to outlive all of us!

Thank you! Very nice to read such comments.
We figured it was better for him to be put to sleep, rather than continue to watch him suffer with his old age - but still wasn't easy to decide. On the whole, I think it would have been more cruel to allow him to live, as he had no idea where he was or what he was doing - I guess we were hoping he'd just pass away one night in his sleep.
We don't feel too bad, to be honest, as we know he had a very long and happy natural life. So different to the way we felt when our 4 year old sausage dog died (the one in the picture with Yogi and the cat)- I don't think I'll ever quite get over that - I never though that the death of a dog could have such an effect on me, I still miss him even now, after 5 years.

Yep -another dog living to a ripe old age. Mine is now an eleven year old pup. He's overweight, but slimming down, and as posted on here ,will chase any small furry in sight. So I feel for those who've just lost an old friend. But ,at least you've given an old friend a lot of love/attention and care for a few years . Sit back & take a bow. Remember the good times, and the love the dog gave back . The dog would not have loved you back if it had not had love from you .
RIP yogi,
It really is a bad time, that anybody without a pet will not appreciate,
that is an amazing age for a king charles ,my last one only lived till he was 10 and the present one was diagnosis with a heart problem when she was 10 and the vet said it would not have long......
Roll on 4 years and she is still around, 18 would be good, you have given us so thing to aim for, the vet is amazed each time we go (she needs heart tablets)
As others have said you must have been looking after him well for him to reach that age and for that you should take a bow.
