Im sure the regulars on here will have seen the pics Ive posted over the yaers and may well remember the trauma that our fox terrier Millie went through a couple of years ago now.

To bring things up to date is hard, but I thought I would post anyway.

Millie recovered from the major operation to remove about 40 odd percent of her lung material due to blisters (known as bullae)leaking air into her chest cavity very well and swiftly.

However, after the op, she always seemed to have had a cough - this started out as about one cough avery month, to the coughing badly every hour situation we found ourselves in last week.

With some trepidation we took her to the vets for an examination. All seemed ok, it didnt sound likethere was an air situation like last time, and the vet suggested maybe a bronchial issue relevant to her history combined with all the wet weather could be the cause. A course of antibiotics was prescribed and we left uneasily.

Millie didnt seem to get any better, an five days later, following a telecon with the vets, we took her in to have chest xrays done to establish what exactly was going on.

I collected her from the vets last night aftfer the xrays had been done and having had a discsussion with the vet.

Sadly, she has a large tumour on the lung that has already had a large portion removed, along with a two more very obvious bullae. Either of these things are enough to finish her off, but she s a tough chick and is fighting it.

Basically, we are now living a day to day basis with out beloved little girl. We have some pills to try and ease her cough, but given shes nearly twelve years old and has already lost a large percebtage of lung material, we are now just a short time away from the hideous last visit to the vets.

Shes is currently very happy, but ends up coughing hard if she gets over excited. The vet said she could last a week, a month or maybe more...

Its very odd and extremely saddening to know our pup is slowly dieing in front us and we cannot help her any further.....

I am so sorry to hear that OP and I am in the exact same situation with a dog with cancer.

All I can say is lots of cuddles and treats and then when the time is right, ask the vet to come out to your house.

Instead of going TO the vet for the last time, why not see if the vet will come to you for the last visit?
We did this for our old cat when there was nothing left to do with her cancer.
The insurance didn't cover the cost of a home visit, but she had had enough stress being in the vet 'hospital'& spent her last few hours at home in familiar surroundings.

Damn it, that's just not fair frown. So so sorry for the stty news. I know you'll make the most of your time left with her and spoil her even more than you do already.

Re; home visit or visiting the vets, this is very much a personal decision based on owners feelings and the animal itself. A very poorly animal is not likely to even realise where they are, those that have never had a problem with the vets won't care, some owners do not want there last memory of the pet to be in their house, some don't want it to be in the vets.

OP you'll know what decision is right for your four legged friend and you, I just hope it's further away than it may seem right now.

Bex, she is without doubt, the sweetest dog Ive ever owned, eveyone who meets her loves her - our dog walker was in tears when she found out the news.

But, as I said, shes a tough chick, and has good days and bad - today was a very good day, particularly if you are a sun worshipper as she clearly is !

Really sorry to read this OP and enjoy every minute of your time with her.

having only been in dog ownership (my own as opposed to family) a couple of months I now fully understand, or as close as possible, the feelings you have.
That picture in the sun today is cracking, one to treasure.

Well, today was the day.

We have said goodbye to our beloved little girl. Ive never felt so devastatingly sad in all my life.

Shes was without doubt, the sweetest, happiest dog I have ever met or owned. Everyone that met her fell for her.

Our dog walker is as upset as us.

One of the hardest things Ive ever had to do.

Farewell my beautifull girl, and thank you for being such a big part of our lives for, what now, seems a very short space of time.

RIP Millie pee......

There are no words. I'm so so sorry for your loss. In time the memories will take over the grief but for now it is natural to feel as you do. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge sweet Millie frown

+1. We had to let go of our dog Alfie January last year after a long battle with Osteosarcoma.
Initially I could not think about him without grieving, but as time has gone on, now I just reflect on all the wonderful times we had together.
He will never be forgotten.

Really sorry to hear that OP.

I hope it is some consolation to you that you did the right thing for Millie, to make sure she didn't suffer. It is the last gift we give to our pets, and it is one of the most important ones.
