How much of the day should 2/3 month old kittens sleep? Mine plays for about 30 minutes and is then out for the count for 3 odd hours. So play is only about 3 x 30 minutes sessions per day. Play time is hard play chasing balls/rolled up bits of paper etc non stop. Sleeps through the night as well.

I know at this age is very much a baby but I didn't expect it to sleep quite this much. Is this normal? Otherwise eats rather well and generally bright and alert when awake so am assuming all is ok.

I'm no expert, but 30 mins of sustained chasing sounds like quite a lot for a youngster.

I'd suggest 'maze' type toys / play tunnels to challenge them mentally rather than physically. Paper carrier bags and boxes are good.

I bought the Ancol Acticat Playground for Bob.

Unfortunately he's not remotely interested in it - cats, eh? rolleyes

However it's only light, so if you PM me your address I'll post it to you.

Just like baby people, they need to sleep a lot. even when they're grown up, they still sleep a lot smile

Paper bags are great, especially if you have 2 kittens.. one inside, one outside biggrin

Mine have never really been interested in jingly balls or anything similar, but they will still (at 3ish years old) hide behind furninture to ambush each other, roll around the living room floor play fighting, and chase each other around the house hehe

Kittens usually play hard for 20 - 30 minutes and collapse where they are and sleep even if it is in the middle of their food bowl!

yes

Horatio would do this 24hours a day when I first got him. I was watching him climbing up the arm of the safe, about 2/3 of the way up he reached his tired point and promptly fell asleep hanging from the sofa armrest where his claws had dug in. hehe

Thanks all, I just wanted to make sure all was ok. It's been over 20 years since I had a kitten so couldn't remember how much the play/sleep ratio was.

MC, thanks for the very kind offer but I already have one of those.

Plus I've this weekend made a cat house out of a very large cardboard box which has gone down rather well. Paper bag sounds good.

Paper balls are still the favourite though hehe
