Friday night before last I was outside the local having a few beers and a puppy came up to me. Gorgeous little thing, and I thought it strange that it had no collar and I couldn't see the owner anywhere. Asked around, no-one knew anything about it. It's only reasonable to stay at the pub for a few hours in case the owner comes looking, so I held the pup whilst having several more beers, but no-one came. Fortunately there is a vet just across the road so I took her over to see if she had a microchip - negative. She’s an estimated 4-5 month old kelpie cross with the loveliest temperament.

I was going to take her home as I had no other option. I'm sure my cat Bruce wouldn't take too kindly to it though, so I had a friend who also has a puppy take her home and the next day put posters around the local area.

That was Friday before last and no-one’s come looking. We’ve tried rehoming her and had a few folk say they were interested only for partners/family to veto it, but this weekend a friend of mine has said she will take her. This couple live a couple of hours drive south of Sydney, with another kelpie, a fox terrier and loads of land for her to run around on.

As my first friend has a house inspection I’m tasked with looking after her on Tuesday/Wednesday so we’ll have to see how her and the cat get on – I’m not too hopeful and will probably just keep them completely separated. I'm not concerned about her, it's Bruce that's likely to have the beef I think.

So, on Saturday morning she’s getting a good run in my car down to her new home with her new puppy mates, with dog loving owners in the most perfect area for her to stretch her little legs and live happily ever after. And I get to have a weekend away to catch up with an old friend. Happy days.

Well done OP, for not just putting her into a rescue center.
