Pine is poisonous to Guinea Pigs but I have four of them in separate pine boxes (not coffins
) and they don't chew at all. I used Ronseal quick drying matt varnish to coat the inside faces of the wood.
My 'Pigs' are indoor only and instead of a cage I built a 4 x 2 foot wooden box, without a lid. Here is the one I built for my Tortoise, the Guinea boxes are identical to this but obviously don't have soil in:

i had a cage panel system when i had piggies, I had laminate on the bottom and could change it easily, see here for what im talking about!
