I'm looking for some advice. My neighbours have a dog which lives in a cage in their back garden full time, even during winter it was out there at 2am crying (I assume it was freezing its bks off). The dog does bark a lot but this doesn't bother me as it is probably just wanting attention, the woman who owns it spends her day shouting obscenities out the window at it when it makes a noise.

Personally I think a dog living in a cage outside is out of order, especially in winter. I don't think the woman has a job, I don't think there's any reason a dog should be locked away when she's home all day.

The cage looks like this:

Do you think I should just mind my own business and stop being a nosey ?

No, I think you should involve an animal welfare charity.

Dogs are social animals and don't like to be excluded from company. This is cruelty if you ask me. Not for an odd day/night or for a period of hours, but if it is happening all the time and the dog is getting no exercise, then this is not only mental torture for the dog but physical as well.

Yeah, that's what I thought. The dog is locked up day and night, and as I mentioned earlier I couldn't believe it when I heard it out there crying during the snow in winter. They have kids so I assume they bought the dog for the kids but what's the point in having it when it lives outside and they never interact with it?

EDIT: I'm not just concerned about it being outside, also the fact that it always seems to be there and never let out. I think it's a Labrador or something, I don't know exactly as I've never seen it out of the cage but it is a medium-sized dog.

Who won't do a thing, I reported a dog tied up 24/7 to a post and was told as long as it had food and water there is nothing they can do.

You also have to remember this is how they are housed at a dogs home.

My dog lives in similar at the rear of the garden, although mine does have heat all year round... he is a very happy dog that gets all the attention he would if he lived inside...hes never locked in just that kennel...

Judge for yourself if the dog is being neglected i.e not fed, not walked then you have a right to report it.. if its because he lives in a kennel run that you dont like then you have nothing to report...

Call the RSPCA and ask their advice....I've done it a couple of times with good outcomes.

why would you buy a dog and then stick it down the end of the garden in a prison cell?

True that is how they are housed at a dogs home, and as another poster has shown in his pictures of his dog living at the bottom of his garden.

The big difference is that the other poster and at dogs homes the animals are let out for exercise.

If this dog is kept in that cage 24/7 whether it has food and water or not, is cruel. It's effectively imprisoned.

It's a kennel isn't it? Lot's of dogs live in kennels.

Calling it a 'prison cell' is rather dramatic.

It's not how I would keep a dog, but to be fair yours does look big and has heat and lights, the one I'm talking about has nothing and is quite small.

To me having a dog is about companionship, I can't see the point if it kept locked away and never seen, spoken to or played with (referring to my neighbour).

A prison cell seems very over the top, plenty of working dogs are kept in kennels very similar to Frixturbo's.

No harm in keeping a dog outside whatsoever.

if the dog is not cared for correctly and neglected you have every right to report this...

my dog is part of the family, gets attention all day long, walks daily.. but sleeps in a kennel..

No, it's the dog's luggage stand.

Out of interest - why does your dog sleep outside? From what you posted before, I get the impression he once slept inside?

I have nothing against keeping a dog outside, just interested as to why you do?
