Fantastic. Clever doggy indeed! One of our dogs (Phoebe) knows the names of all her toys (red bally, green bally, blue boney etc) and never gets them wrong. She's also taught herself to roll balls to me and a variety of other games she's taught me...

With a lot of patience dogs can be taught to do a lot. Some breeds more than others, due to the intelligence of the dog. One IQ test on TV, was to put a blanket over the dogs head ,and time how long it took to get it off- mine did it immediately . As a kid I had a dog that spent a lot of time with my grandfather. Dog wanted biscuit- it made sounds. My Grandad got the dog to copy him, and eventually it sounded like "I want one" - dog obviously didn't know what it was saying, but it got food. What happened next was amazing- someone said "does he want another one". Reply from dog was something that sounded like "another one" . Same dog had for years heard my dad say "hello mum" to his wife. One day mum was greeted by "allo mum" from dog. But this was a highly intelligent breed . Same dog was used to fetching my dads slippers from beside dad's chair. One day the slippers were up stairs- so upstairs went dog, to return with them .

I think most animals can be trained if you have the patience and are consistent. I've trained my cat to wave when she wants to be stroked. smile
