Unfortunately we need to look to get our cat re-homed, and as all of the local (North Essex) sanctuaries are full to bursting, I thought I'd chance my arm here.

He's just about five years old, and unfortunately, since we had our baby at Xmas he's started spraying - predominantly around his litter box but occasionally elsewhere. Unfortunately, the baby is just starting to get mobile and clearly something has to give - and the baby can't go back! He was neutered, and since this has kicked off, we have had him checked out by the vet, but as per our suspicions he's in fine health but clearly not happy. We've tried the plug-in cat calming things and other suggestions by the vet but to no avail, so he's free to a good home if anyone's interested.

When you say other things what do you mean, just want to check all avenues have been covered as his spraying could continue with the stress of a changed enviroment as well, which new owners won't appreciate!

Does he still get the same amount of attention he used to do?

I'd rehome the baby; it will cost much more to run.

Have you tried Colchester Cat Rescue and The Crescent?
Failing that the Magic Wok in Lawford would probably take him (sorry!)

I suspect it is the change in environment - i.e. the addition to the family Becky, so yes it's a concern that it may continue in a new home unfortunately.

No less affection, he's a bit of a loner really and always has been.

Thanks for those Simpo, I don't know as the Mrs has tried those two, so will pass them on.

Edit - missed the magic wok comment when I read your post. Perhaps I should post in food and restaurants for some recipes as well?!

Is he indoor and outdoor? Does he have somewhere in the house that's his escape space from the noise?

He's mostly indoors. He has his hidey holes where he gets out of the way - and as I say isn't the most sociable cat in the world (not selling him am I?!), so has never been a great one for being in and amongst people.

Yes I have two cats like that! Have you tried calling someone like Cats Protection for some advice?

Perhaps this would be a good place to put up ideas about how to prepare cats for the change in the house with a new arrival. The OP might see something they can do and others might be able to put it into effect.

If the OP doesn't object of course.

I would but I did ask OP what he has done in more detail already. There is a lot to write and I don't want to waste time writing about things the owner has already tried. Once I have more info I'll be more than happy to help. Plus I am really drained at the mo. 45hrs in 4 days and very short staffed at work, my brain is fuzzy!
