Frank the guinea pig gets hot in this weather
Saw some frozen bottles of water in the cages at our local petshop, any thoughts?

He seems quite happy with it in there so far

As long as it can melt at a reasonable rate it should be ok but obviously i dont know if guinea pigs suffer from brain freeze like i do when eating ice cream.

Maybe just leave the water alone and add an ice cube in a small pot to the bottom of the cage if you want

My sister used to do this for her rabbits, but would only fill the bottle half full, then once frozen top it up with water.

This ensure that it melts fast enough whilst still providing nice cold water smile

Lid still on, just to cool him down really, not to drink

I do this if it gets very hot. I freeze a bottle of water, wrap it in a towel and pop it in a corner of the enclosure so that the boys can stay nice and cool. They seem quite happy with the arrangement!

See it at all the local pet places. Can't imagine it's for the fun of the staff so must be fairly standard practice.

I use a 1 litre squash bottle stuffed into a long sock which seems to work OK...

Do this too but with those tetrapak cartons from orange juice. Doesn't roll around.

I've put a freezer pack wrapped in a towel down for Bob to cool off against.

All the curtains and blinds are drawn to make the house as shady as possible, but the poor thing is so hot he doesn't know what to do with himself.

In the recent chilly weather he'd grown his winter coat back.

Do they actually go and sit on/near it? Our guinea pigs don't even seem to bother drinking water even in this hot weather so I'm not sure I can imagine them bothering with a nice cool towel. Do yours actually go there?

He drinks quite a bit anyway, and has been resting almost next to it, about an inch away

Afraid so
Fought with every cage mate the shop tried him with
He's fine with us now, although he went for the wifes throat the first time they met!
