Well following on from is blockage, where he ended up on oxygen for 2 days as things got a bit dicey, they got some results back from a heart scan. And he's been in today for another one to take a closer look.

The upshot is he has enlarged chambers. I'm going to be given 2 lots of pills. 1 for the heart and one for fluid on the lungs (precautionary I believe).

The OH raised a good question. How does a dicky heart lead to fluid on the lungs?

Heart doesn't beat as efficently, so blood does not leave the heart as quickly as it should, which means blood can't get into the heart as quickly, so it all backs up into the veins and then into the capillaries. When blood is in the veins/capillaries small amounts of fluid are supposed to leak out, if it sits there too long too much fluid leaks out and accumulates in the surrounding tissue, in this case the lungs.

Body then makes this worse as it increases the circulating blood volume to try and cope with a failing heart, causing more blood to sit in the veins.

Same mechanism that causes congestive heart failure in people.
