O/H bought a Chinese dwarf hamster today,

On reading the receipt, appears it was marked down in price

As it was 'Nearing sell by date' .

Do pets in shops have a sell by date ??

Once past this date are they spoiled ??

I suppose you wouldn't want to buy one that was 90% through its life.

Quite what happens to them afterwards if not sold in time is anyone's guess though - is there a Chinese takeaway nearby?

Would be disappointed to get it as a meal,
not enough meat to fill a hollow tooth.

Hardly a knock down price, has it got all four legs?
as stock becomes older the cuteness factor can go so sometimes stock is offered at a cheaper price but dwarf hamsters never loose the cuteness factor so wonder what the real reason was?
was it a purchase from pets at hell shop?

More interested in the scale they use to determine the value of new and cute = price

against aged not so cute = less value

and what do they do with the ones they can't sell = oops RIP

on all animals in pet shop

it must get to a point where they are costing money to keep for zero comeback.

ps, yep got four legs

What you should have done is bought one from the back of the shelf. Everyone knows those products are fresher.

Cripes, it was hard enough trying to catch the little twad in a cage never mind a shelf, had to get the assistant out the way as he was pooping himself less he got bit.

but yes more than likely a default on comp, but still makes ya wonder ??

Unfortunately they don't get handled much in pet shops (usually) so the longer they're in one the less chance you have of taming them once you get them home.

While looking at rats the other day I noticed the ones in our local store are £10-49 regular price.

has it killed anyone yet? we had some chinese dwarf hamsters.....utterly adorable furry little rejects from hell they were too.

they really don't live that long so I wonder if poster above was right in suggesting its just a 'percentage of life' very much doubt they feed em to reptiles though...kinda illegal (only kinda) I dont think Ive ever seen pets marked down in price myself so no better clue
