We just had seven puppies......
Discussion
They were born yesterday evening.
So, is there any medications, vitamins, supplements etc that the proud mum needs to take to keep her up to par delivering the creamy juice to seven pups?
Unfortunatly, we already have five dogs, so now we are overwhelmed with the bloody things. My wife tells me not all the pups may survive, as it is the first litter.
Here are the five originals, but no pics of the seven new furry guys yet.

This is the proud mum, Cupcake.

Just make sure Mum eats food quality protein food or puppy food. If beung fed scraps then calcium
hosphorus. Supplementation may be needed but carefully.
No reason why pups shouldn't survive unless you have a weak/ runty pup or Mum is poorly nourished and doesn't have enough reserves to feed them all. If there is a pup being pushed away then you could supplement it with hand rearing milk or if nothing else available, goats milk will do.
In an ideal world mum would've been scanned before hand to give rough idea of amount of pups due then post birth co to ensure all ok.

Not so many dogs scanners in the Philippines.
She looks and sounds healthy, but I'm 12 time zones away at the moment, don't get back until Saturday night.
Or dogs live on rice and Pedigree Dog biscuits, plus scraps and whatever else they can blag off us. I'll tell the wife to slip her some of the Pedigree tinned food meat stuff too.
They are far from under nourished, probably eat better than some of our neighbours....
Apparently they were born in two batches an hour or so apart.
I'll post pics as soon as they are sent to me.

Yes, that is the tail poking out. It is so funny watching them pile up on each other, like a big heap of snakes continually squirming and moving.
Unfortunately we will have to give most of them away eventually. I'm not sure how old they need to be before they can be stolen from the mum.
Do mums go nuts when you take away some of their litter, or do they accept it pretty easily?
Ours seems to go looking in cupboards and cubby holes as if she thinks some are already missing. She sneaks into my workshop looking around behind piles of wood and stuff. Not sure exactly what she is looking for though?

Between 6-8 weeks nearer 8 if poss. Mums seem to cope quote well as they usually go one at a time and by 8 weeks she'll not be wanting to be around them as much.
They can start trying to wean from 4 weeks but properly at 5-6 weeks.
No idea what forming protocols are over there (is heartworm an issue?) but here we adv working at 2,5 & 8 weeks of age usually with Panacur (active ingredients Fenbendazole) and of course flea tx.
Vaccines usually start at 8 weeks in UK.
Hope that helps a but

Thanks for the info Vex. We have a pretty good vet here, who has advised us a fair bit on our dogs. My wife was on the phone to her today as our other dogs are due for their various annual injections and stuff.
There was talk about de-worming as well, so I'll see what they have arranged.
