Had a fantastic day yesterday we are in Mauritius on holiday. A local guy with a boat took us about a mile or so out beyond the reef, where we came across a school of Bottlenose Dolhpins ,we slipped into the water and the Dolhpins were instantly curious and came within inches of me. They are such beautiful creatures who tend to trust us and are quite happy in our company. There were a pair play fighting about 6 feet below me and seemed to be showing off

Ive swam with dolfins in america, but they were not wild, they were in discovery cove, and trained ones.

even had a ride off one, where holding onto the side and top fin an then it swims around.

I am actually pretty impressed in how inteligent they are.

Being with them in the wild is special, they are free to just swim away but they choose not to . In captivity they are cajoled and bribed with a fish reward some thing I find sad.

Also in the wild you shouldn't touch them (unless the dolphin seems to want you to).

That is an amazing privilege smile

They did come so close I could just move my hand a couple of inches to touch them but I did not. But they just seem to want to show off, but we must remember we are a guest in their environment and must respect that. As said incredibly clever animals.

Had a similar experience in the Red Sea on a diving trip. Done 2 wrecks in the morning & were heading back to port. The captain saw a number of dolphins about 200m away & decided to stop the boat. I grabbed mask, snorkel & fins and jumped in. Swam over towards them. I could now see there were about 16 dolphins. A mother & calf came over towards me, got to about 3m, turned & swam off. Within a few seconds the whole group came over. The were swimming around us, jumping over us, just playing & enjoying. We spent about 30mins in the water with them. As we swam back to the boat they followed, then followed the boat as it moved off.

Simply amazing experience.

I'd rather they were calm dolphins.
