Had to put one of our rabbits down.

Midnight was starting to get better, his eyes were starting to open, however, first thing this morning I went out to him and found him with a prolapse from the bottom, and bleading from the mouth.
He was also making the most awful noise I have ever heared.
I immediately knew he was not going to make it, we called the vets, they couldn't get to him until this evening.
Not wanting him to suffer I decided to euthanise him with my rifle.
It is one of the most stressful things I have ever done.
I shoot and eat wild rabbits on a regular basis, but when it is your pet is is a whole different matter, and something I hope never to have to do again.
Sorry for rambling on, but I feel better for writing it down.
R.I.P. Midnight.

Well done for stepping up when needed. I had to have a lovley girl lionhead put down by the vet once, she seemed to have an adverse reaction to Bob Martens rabbit shampoo. That was 10 years ago and I still remember her, and how horrible this was. I would do the same again today in the same situation though.
I hope you will get a replacement, plenty of rescue rabbits needing a home, rabbit rescue is a good site to find tham as you may know.
Edit, I would never wash a rabbit now. She had got fat and was getting a dirty bum but just cleaning that while she was on a diet would have worked.

None of us will be able to make you feel better, and even knowing you did the right thing won't make it feel any better either. It's just going to take time I'm afraid
I think it's fair to say there are a few rabbit enthusiasts here and each one of us feels for you (I think that is safe to say)
