We have 4 beutiful dogs ages 14 years male neutered, 7 years male neutered, 18months female not neutered and a 7 month old male not neutered. All get along with each other brilliantly no dramas, however due to my wifes failing health she can no longer look after them the way that we would like to so they have to go!
A couple came to see the puppy and we let them take him for a sleepover to see how he got on with their other dog, Herby the puppy was returned the next day because the two dogs were constantly barking and growling!
Another couple came and took Lilly away, some 200 miles round trip, that was yesterday but have just phoned to say that they are bringing Lilly back tomorrow because of the same problem, what sort of dogs have we made them into to be so placid and fun to have at home but then turn into "dogs from hell" with other peoples dogs?

It's a big ask for them!!
They were in a secure family unit and they are being broken up, to be honest, what dis you expect, esp so early on. The two dogs have hardly been given a chance to find their feet in their new homes.
I am sorry that you are in a difficult situation due to your wife's health, it can't be easy but I think you are expecting too much of your four legged friends.

But by asking what have you done to your placid dogs etc you are asking exactly that, well that's how I read it.
Maybe you should get in touch with a rescue centre and ask them how they help new dogs settle into homes, esp with other dogs and then pass this onto potential new owners. Normally they get the family dog to visit the potential new dogs at the shelter first.

I'd agree with Bex - your dogs are so secure and settled where they are; it's a big ask for them to go away somewhere completely alien (without the reassuring company of at least one of their owners), and expect them to settle in with no problems - strange people, strange environment, strange dogs, strange way of doing things (it inevitably won't be what they're used to)...
The other point is that over-night is not at all long enough to see whether they settle or not, especially given the circumstances in which they find themselves...
Rescue homes will offer some pointers on how best to approach issues around re-homing.
Poor you, though - must be heart-breaking for you and your good lady
Good on you for thinking of their welfare above your own, though.

We have three "rescues", adopted over 3 years, 1st Glen and he had us+home to himself for a year the came Tilly, Glen was vile to her for 3 days till she pounced on him (playfull) ob a walk and he realised..."ooohhh, i like this"
then 8 weeks ago maddie arrived, it was Tilly who did the aggression bit, the two of them (Tilly+Maddie) had a few spats, pinning each other down, but no cuts or blood, Glen just watched
The two girls now both rag Glean at the same time, he seems to enjoy it...
The "foster" westie we brought home lasted about 3 hours before he tried to mince my thigh and groin, and he went for the dogs we had then.
some dogs just dont get on, and you will never know why, maybe its the breed, maybe it their history
