So I'm up for work and come downstairs to a sad looking cat (who is normally asleep upstairs) then realise he can hardly walk on his back leg.
Work won't understand, got nobody to ask to help, feel that I'm just going to have to leave him at home with a litter tray and sort him out in 12 hours when I get home

No chance of getting home at lunch unfortunately
he's had a problem with this leg before when he slipped on the laminate floor, that seemed to sort itself out within an hour or so. Vet thought he'd dislocated an then relocated his hip. Hopefully this will be better by the time I get home. Horrid feeling though

After previous problems with her cats, when one lost their tail,I think she knows there is no one that can help
Do you still have the crate you used? Might be an idea to confine him to the crate/one room until you get back so he can 'rest'.
Although you'll be on your shift now I guess

He's got an infected paw they think as its hugely swollen, hot and he's got a temperature.
Has had antibiotics and analgesia, I need to starve him and take to own vet in morning.
God only knows how I'm meant to take him and collect him from an op tomorrow when I'm working 16:00-02:00. Can hardly dump him at home post op on his own.

If he needs an op then you could ask them to hospitalise him for the night, It's not that expensive normally and probably peanuts compared with what you will have paid today.
I know the vet I used to use didn't keep animals overnight as they had no onsite nursing teams. I do use a pet sitter so will see what she says.
