You can't. They're prescription only, if you do find a website supplying them and buy from them both the website and yourself will be committing an offence.

I have been told by a friend to try zymox otic, has anyone experience of using this? He is suffering with a bacterial ear infection, I know this because I have taken him to the vets tonight, they prescribed him with canaural ear drops and £105 (inc consultation) later I am considering if there any less expensive options as the vet said he may need another course (@£105) Any positive input appreciated

Where the fk do you live!!!

Is that really JUST for Canaural and a consult. It can't be.

Anyway I assume you now have the canaural. Use the drops as instructed and hopefully the problem will clear swiftly.

If it becomes a recurring problem you may get a written px from the vets but I'd look to finding another vets (sap if not insured)

Be very careful with ear drops misuse of ear treatments is a big cause of chronic ear problems that would otherwise respond to tx.

Hope the problem clears quickly and please question that bill if nothing else was done'

Canaveral drops prob £30 max and that's for the largest bottle, you were prob px a 15ml bottle which at a vets would be approx £15

Fees could be correct if the animal was seen out of hours, otherwise consult fee and meds might not be that far off £100 in central London.

OP, most vets will charge less for check-up than the original visit, and are legally required to give you a written prescription to obtain the medication elsewhere if you request it.

I've probably got a number of bottles kicking about - I might be able to stick one in the post?

I don't class us as a 'cheap' practice and we are Bristol but that would have been approx £50

Yes ooh may account for it though.

Hi All

I too am looking for some Canaural ear drops or a non-prescription alternative?

Took my dog to the vets a few months ago and they prescribed Canaural, it was during working hours and the consultation fee was £24 and the Canaural 15ml bottle was £42! Checked online and I can get a 25ml bottle for £8.

Basically the bottle is empty and the problem has returned. Now I don't mind spending money if I feel I aren't being ripped off but I don't fancy a £66 trip to the vets to have yet another consultation and small bottle of ear drops when I know exactly what will fix it.

From what I can see the only reason it keeps coming back is because she tends to like puddles and I suppose it's our fault for not cleaning her ears properly - Once its cleared this time we will keep on it a little better!

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Rob

How are you using the drops. If a flare up occurs you should use them twice a day for at least a week pref 2 weeks. If it keeps happening the canaural may not be doing the job effectively enough. A reassessment should be made. Incorrect treatment of an ear problem can cause long term chronic issues.

jasandjules may be able to offer natural remedies where px is not needed but it is important whatever you use that is is correct for that ears condition
