Bonnie – the Golden Retriever / Poodle
Discussion
Well, I thought I'd start this thread as we'll have a new edition joining the family soon.
After years of saying we are too busy for a dog, wifey and kids have twisted my arm so far that I've agreed. I tend to be out early and back late, so the wife will be the 'boss' - she works part-time and locally.
Wife has found this particular female being sold through a local dog enthusiast / breeder. We went to visit / choose her from the litter a couple of weeks back - she arrives back end of March when she'll be 9 weeks old.
Having done a bit of research, this type of cross-breed seems to make a good family / kids dog and the parents both looked like fabulous dogs with a very nice way with strangers / children.
Will add pics and updates as we go

Yeah, had not heard of it myself either!
Have to admit, we didn't go out to find a particular breed or cross breed. Having a young family our view was that a lab / retriever would make a good pet for the kids.
My wife got put in touch with the breeder who was due a litter at Easter through a friend of a friend - the fact that they were half retriever made her go for a visit... to meet the ickle pupies... and that was that!
When I realised I was a bit concerned about the whole 'designer dog' thing - I'm no expert but you hear of health issues and such. But then I considered that unless you buy a complete thorough-bred, all dogs are a cross to some degree. Plus the parents both looked in good health and are lovely dogs. The breeder seems to know what she was talking about regarding male/female breed types through the generations. I'm no expert, so trust that everyone knows what they are talking out!
I'm sure the dog will just come to regard me as some burk who lives in her house, leaving early and returning late

Poodles are getting crossed with everything at the moment. One of the most common around me seems to be with spaniels (springer/cocker/CKCS) as well as lab/retrievr. They always seem to make a lovely breed. Poodles are playful and generally make a great cross. Althoguh I'm not sure a retriever needs any help in being playful and giddy!

How about retriever cross or Poodle cross, I'm sure it'll be cute either way
.
I feel sorry for the poodle, they are a perfectly nice breed in their own right, don't see many pure poodle puppies these days.
I see quite a lot of miniature poodles about, there are two I see often in the park, but I can't remember the last time I saw a full size poodle that wasn't crossed with something.
